Are you searching for a bed for your child but not sure how much it will cost? This guide will tell you about what to expect when budgeting for any kids’ bed.
My partner and I struggled in our search for the perfect sleeping space for our kiddos because I wanted to find the best deal around for a cheap bed. I wasn’t sure what to expect in terms of cost but did want to stay within our price range. Now, I’ve collected all the information I found and created this guide to help you with your search.
This article will cover:
- Price range for different types of kids’ beds
- What influences the prices?
- Kid mattress prices
- Stores to find kid beds
- Takeaway
What are the price ranges for different types of kids’ beds?
The average bed frame is $217, but there is a huge range in price. The cost depends significantly on what material, features, and design you get, as you’ll read later. There are many different styles, each with its own benefits and specific price ranges.
But first, check out what the average range of prices is for the most popular styles here.
1- Price for cribs
When I researched “How much do baby beds cost?” the results were varied. But, I saw that cribs are actually reasonably cheap beds because of their small size. Prices for cribs range from around $70-$1,000, with plenty of safe, comfy options in the $100-$300 range.
2- Price for convertible cribs
Convertible cribs are beds that can transition from a small crib to a bigger toddler, twin, or even full size. They’re anywhere from $90-$1,000, but you’ll only need to buy one bed for a long time, so it’s worth the higher cost.
3- Price for toddler’s beds
Because toddler beds are only used for a few transitional years, there are plenty of options that don’t break the bank. The price of toddler beds is anywhere from $40-$300.
4- Price for bunk beds
For sleepovers and families with two children, a bunk is an ideal choice! Because bunk beds are actually two in one, they are more expensive – around $100-$2,000. But don’t worry, I’ll share some stores with great deals later in this article.
5- Price for loft beds
Like bunk beds, lofts are a novelty, and the prices reflect that. Most of the options online fall between $200-400, so you don’t have to splurge. However, there are also plenty of beautiful loft frames for $100-$2,000.
6- Price for platform beds
Platform beds are frames with lifted support for your child to sleep on. This style is super popular, and they’re not very expensive – $60-$700! Platforms can have extra features too, so it’s all about finding one that you like.
7- Price for beds with storage
We love our storage bed because the kiddos have a cool space, and we keep our home tidy at the same time! Beds with storage are a bit more expensive because of the added feature, so you can expect prices anywhere from $150-$1,500.
8- Price for stylized beds
Your kiddo is super unique, and their bed should be too! You can find fabulous options online like fairytale-themed, race car-shaped, ones on wheels, canopies, and more! Usually, custom beds like this will be a bit more expensive at $100-$9,000.
To sum it all up, here is the average range of prices for each type of basic kid bed:
- Crib: $70-$1,000
- Convertible Crib: $90-$1,000
- Toddler Bed: $40-$300
- Bunk Bed: $100-$2,000
- Loft Bed: $100-$2,000
- Platform Bed: $60-$700
- Bed with Storage: $150-$1,500
- Stylized Bed: $100-$9,000
What influences the price?
From my research, the influential factors in a bed’s price are the materials, features, and size. It’s also important to note the style and color because they will impact the cost as well.
1- Materials
Kids’ beds generally come in three different materials: metal, wood, and plastic. Wood is the most popular and expensive material because wooden frames are famously sturdy and beautifully made. Metal frames are also super reliable but generally have a lower price, while plastic is the cheapest.
2- Extra Features
As I talked about earlier, any special feature you add will raise the price. Whether it’s a unique style, storage, or a slide, there will be added cost. However, for the extra fun – or extra storage – the amount might be worth it.
3- Styles
Again, the style of your bed will change your price. If you go with a bunk or loft bed, you’ll find higher prices than for a platform or basic frame, but consider all the features you get with each choice.
4- Colors
Colors might also influence the price of your bed, but it has more of an effect depending on the style you choose. For example, if you find a cute pink castle-themed bed, the price will be higher than a standard black metal frame.
5- Size
Kids 4 years and older can sleep in either a toddler, twin, full, queen, or larger, but prices increase as the size does. A twin will always be your cheapest option, but a queen will give you some bang for your buck because it will last forever, with room to grow.
Kids’ Mattress Prices
Unfortunately, when you buy a bed frame, you’ll probably also need to spend money on a new mattress. Consider that the size of the mattress you choose will impact your cost.
To give you a better idea of how much you’ll have to spend on your kid’s mattress, here are the price ranges you should stick to for the popular mattress sizes.
There are options outside of the price ranges below, but sticking within these will help you find a safe and affordable mattress.
- Crib and Toddler: $70-$200
- Twin: $90-$4,500
- Short Twin & Twin XL: $150-$2,500
- Full: $140-$4,500
